I am so happy to be sharing my first blog in a while with you. Thank you for your patience and for following along!
Since May is Mental Health Awareness month, I wanted to share a bit about the providers and businesses that helped me over the last few months. As you may have heard on Instagram, I began this year with some bad back pain. It was the result of many factors including stress, overwork, and not taking breaks. I was uncomfortable and there were a few times when I was unable to move on my own (thank you to Peter for helping me!). Everything had taken a toll on me, my body, and my mind. I took a break from social media and blogging to focus on getting myself back on track. I am glad I did and in April I began to feel like myself for the first time in a long time.
I want to highlight that I did not do it alone. I created a team of providers around me to help me through this time. This blog is a thank you to their help and care. Without them I would not have healed as quickly as I did.
So here is a bit more about my self care routine:
Del Soul Spa: I have been a fan of the spa since they opened so when my back was really bothering me, I knew I had to call Katie. She worked with me to identify the source of my pain and we developed a plan of how to treat it. She answered all my questions and provided the most amazing massages ever (the ones that really worked through all of my problem areas). I feel so much better after my appointments with Katie.
Float 41: This monthly hour and a half float session is what really helps reset me. At first, I was focusing on floating to ease the pain. During the sessions I was able to let my mind drift and it became therapeutic in many ways. I have to say I do not rest during my sessions, instead I have come up with some of my best ideas in the float tank.
UCONN Health: I worked with my health care provider to focus on my physical health. I asked for appointments every 3 months to check in with my provider. These check ins helped me to create a plan of action and track my progress. I can honestly say I have received the best care of my life at UCONN Health.
Five Corners Bistro & Craft Bar: our favorite place. There were many nights where we did not have time to cook. There were nights where we needed to get out of the house. Five Corners became the spot for us to get away, take a break, and eat some delicious food. The staff is always nice and understanding. It also helps that everything on the menu is super yummy :)
Reflections Counseling & Consulting: there are a lot of changes in my life and I am experiencing my own period of growth. During these times in my life, I have always turned to a counselor for support and guidance. I am so glad I reached out again during this phase. Having these check ins also help keep me on track and focused.
This was the routine that worked for me during this time period. This was the self-care I needed to get better and be able to still progress on my own goals. I believe that when I viewed each provider as a member of my team this changed my progress in a positive way.
